Klee Irwin talks about why it first occurred to him to use E8 for unification physics, and why even bother using an 8-dimensional object to describe a 3-dimsional universe. He discusses his method of using E8 for unification physics by projecting a slice of the E8 lattice to 4D thereby creating a quasicrystal known as the Elser-Sloane quasicrystal, from which he and his team derive the Quasicrystalline Spin Network (QSN.)
